Picnic and Concours
at Barbara Key Park,
Lake in the Hills
July 26th, 2009
It has been a while since we have had a club picnic, and we’ve missed the opportunity to eat and drink and just plain hang out and chat around our cars so we are reviving the event. Our summer picnic this year will be held July 26th at Barbara Key park in Lake in the Hills, an ideal location found for us by Paul Sorci. As you can see from the accompanying photos, it is a beautiful area with plenty of shade trees and its own small lake. The park includes a natural fen with some unique geographic features. It is also well equipped with basketball and volleyball courts, horseshoes and a playground for the kids. There are two picnic shelters and Paul has booked them both, so we may almost have the park to ourselves!
The club will provide food – the exact menu has yet to be determined but it will be quality fare with enough variety to suit pretty much anyone. Non-alcoholic beverages like sodas, juice and bottled water will also be available (yes, you heard right – FREE FOOD!) We have acquired a liquor license for our shelters so you are welcome to bring your own beer, wine or other fortified beverages. Of course, we ask that you drink responsibly, especially if you will be driving. If you have a special cut of meat or some other treat feel free to bring it along and we will slap it on the grill for you.

In addition to the picnic, there will also be a concours. There will be awards for the best cars in several categories – watch this space for details as they become available. It doesn’t matter whether you have a ‘trailer queen’ or a daily driver, there will be a suitable class for everyone, and every car has the chance at winning an award! A ‘guess the Alfa’ photo competition has also been proposed.
We could use a few volunteers to assist in putting the event together and to keep things running smoothly on the day, so please let us know if you can help out. We can use people for anything from bringing sports equipment, helping with the food, putting together the awards and helping to organize and judge the concours. If you would like to help out, please get in touch with Paul or Jim via the contact details below. We’ll keep things pretty informal so prior judging experience is not required, but knowledge of specific Alfa models would be a plus.
