Bonnie Back at BonnevilleFinal preparations for Bonnie’s next attempt at a land speed record took place at Besic Motorsports this Wednesday evening. The empty trailer waited outside for the bright yellow, fastest Alfa Romeo in the world to be loaded for its journey to the Bonneville salt flats in Utah where it will hopefully attain speeds well over the 203+ mph set 2 years ago and perhaps entry into the Bonneville 200mph club*. To achieve this goal this year, the little Spider that could is fitted with a turbo charged, twin spark Alfa Romeo 4 cylinder engine with dry sump lubrication. And to help her slip through the air even more efficiently, Bonnie sports custom body work featuring a new, prettier, more aerodynamic nose and a highly polished aluminum belly pan to smooth the air flow around the car. It seemed ironic that one of the most frustrating tasks of the evening was getting the tail lights to work properly. (Yes, tail lights are required) Apparently a ground was at fault. Hopefully the team will get their new record as it can only make their next stop all the sweeter. And that next stop is Concorso Italiano where Bonnie will be one of the featured cars at the Monterey Peninsula’s premier Italian car venue. So please join me in wishing the Bonneville team good luck, a safe LSR run and God speed. * Break an existing record or established minimum over 200 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats and you will have qualified for membership in the exclusive Bonneville 200 MPH Club.
